~ The Story So Far ~

In the far northern reaches of Coerthas, near the base of Abalathia's Spine, there is an old, small village. Several generations back, they became plagued with a pack of vicious wolves that attacked in the night, every night, dragging away hapless villagers unfortunate enough not to be barricaded behind strong walls. Word was sent to Ishgard for aid - and a lesser knight of House Dzemael by the name of Guillaume Aubert was sent to answer the call. He took a small contingent with him, no more than five, and travelled to the village over the course of a few days trek.When he arrived, however, he found that these were no ordinary wolves, but horrifying shapeshifting creatures of the Void. The events of that night were - and remain - shrouded in mystery. What is known is that none of the others made it back to Ishgard alive... but after that evening, the foul beasts never troubled the village again.In reward for his heroic acts, Guillaume was elevated to Lordship by House Dzemael and granted conservatorship over the village. He was also given the last name of 'Meurtriloux' as a family name, meaning 'wolf-slayer'. Moving his family from Ishgard to the quaint little village and with the help of shrewd investments, he eventually built a horse farm, where he bred magnificent equines that were only sold to the elite rich who came from far and wide to purchase them (though Guillaume reserved the right to decline ownership to anyone, for any reason).There was one note of oddity about the family that rustled up the strangest rumors - Guillaume's daughter, Anora, was only seen with the family during the spring and summer months, disappearing throughout the entire fall and winter seasons. One year, upon her return, she was clearly with child, though she remained unwed. Thankfully, scandals were of less consequence in the small village than it would have been in Ishgard.Time passed and Guillaume's generation gave way to new family, all of which continued his legacy and grew inordinately wealthy as the years went by. Eliane came into the world late one evening, the daughter of Lady Isadora and Lord Antoine Meurtriloux. Raised as the estate's heiress and taught the business of investing, she eventually became responsible for overseeing the minor House's holdings, in lands near and far.Most recently, however, her father has seen her settled firmly in Ishgard, a ward of House Courcelle (being that Antoine is a distant cousin of Viscount Armand Courcelle), in the interest in acquiring suitable marriage arrangements, despite the fact that she is well past the 'ideal' age for such things, at thirty-five winters. Accustomed to conducting affairs at her leisure, the hot-headed heiress is giving Viscount Courcelle quite a time of it attempting to find a proper match for her, but... perhaps only time will tell what the Fury has in store for her.
